NCASFF 2012 Film Lineup!
These Are The Real Action/Adventure Films!With beautiful cinematography, fascinating real life characters and stories of triumph over adversity, action sports and adventure films are some of the most entertaining and thrilling films around. The Festival will present films with surfing, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, kayaking, climbing, mountain biking, bouldering, downhill skateboarding, slacklining and environmental issues related to surfing and mountaineering.

FILMS PLAY SIMULTANEOUSLY in all venues (except Sunday’s noon program) and are suitable for all ages. $5 admission/donation, SF, WC, SV proceeds benefit SF IndieFest. SC proceeds benefit Grind Out Hunger. Both organizations are 501c3 non-profits. Patrons under 21 are FREE (online RSVP recommended). The full festival pass is $25. Buy a pass and receive a $10 Sports Basement Gift Card! Seating is limited so advance tickets/passes recommended.

1230p: ON THE TRAIL OF GLACIERS, Mountaineering
The purpose of this film is to determine, on the basis of historic photographs, to what extent the most delicate and important system on earth, the cryosphere, has changed over the past century.
2p: DEFY: THE DANNY HARF PROJECT, Wakeboarding
Three years in the making, Defy is a visual overdose of wakeboarding at its highest level, starring four-time X Games gold medalist Danny Harf and his crew of progressive riders.
330p: FRONTIER, Kayaking
Rush Sturges’s film Frontier breaks new ground for whitewater kayakers, a story about extreme kayakers chasing their turbulent dreams to such exotic locations as Mexico, China, Iceland, Norway, Northwest U.S.A., B.C., and Quebec.
445p: FORMAT PERSPECTIVE, Skateboarding
Filmed on super 8, this film gives a behind-the-scenes look at the work, lives and opinions of six European skate photographers and the skating that these guys like to shoot, as well as the resulting photos that emerge from these sessions.
620p: A DEEPER SHADE OF BLUE, Surfing
Opening Night Film
This is not a surf movie, it is a film about surfing’s deepest roots: in the subconscious; in ancient lore; in the craft of surfboard building; in man’s perpetual quest for a joyful relationship with the natural world. In famed surf photographer Jack McCoy’s latest film, today’s leading surfers are linked to those who came before, for a deeper appreciation of what it means to be a surfer and the soulful underlying power of modern surf culture.

12p: 40 DAYS AT BASE CAMP, Mountaineering
Dianne Whelan captures a fascinating, intimate portrayal of life at the base of Mt. Everest, the “goddess” to the local people and a place of staggering physical and spiritual beauty. The film sheds a provocative light on a community of people that are brought together in their quest to reach the top of the world and the challenges that journey brings.

This is about the discovery of an epic collection of some of the best surfing photographers from the period of time that shaped the sport as we know it today.
