11th Annual SF DocFest Comes to a Close:  Audience Award Winners, New Dates and Website

Presenting the freshest films on the most up-to-the-minute themes is the mission of the San Francisco Documentary Film Festival (SF DocFest), year in and year out. With over 50 films from around the world, the 11th edition of SF DocFest aims to give its audience two weeks of some of the hottest non-fiction films on the current circuit. Highlights of the 11th edition include films about art and artists, social-political issues, a rare insight into contemporary Italy, a penis museum, Indian beauty queens, couch surfing, predatory corporations, Somalian pirates and much more.

Audience Award Winners
After counting the ballots, with a near-perfect audience score of 4.92 out of 5 stars, JASON BECKER: NOT DEAD YET won the 2012 SF DocFest Audience Award. Jason Becker and his family were in attendance for the film screening at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco and the Shattuck Cinemas in Berkeley. The 3 runners-up were the US Premiere of MARRIED AND COUNTING by director Allan Piper; the US Premier of SHOOTING FOR HOME by director Greg Kappy; and THE INSTITUTE from local San Francisco filmmaker Spencer McCall. LA MAESTRA and NATSANAT tied for the Best Documentary short.

Filmmakers in Attendance
This years festival featured many prominent documentary filmmakers attending screenings of their films including: Michael Galinsky with his film BATTLE FOR BROOKLYN; Local filmmaker Sam Banning was in attendance for the World Premier of his feature length debut, CRUEL AND UNUSUAL; Michael Agostini visited San Francisco for the US Premier of his film BROKEN MIKE; Jeffrey Durkin, the director of WORKING CLASS attending opening night with San Francisco artist Mike Giant; and Berkeley native Scott Hamilton Kennedy was in attendance for a screening of his latest film, FAME HIGH.

New Dates for 2013
As DocFest looks to the future, the 12th edition of the festival will move from its normal Fall slot to a new date in spring. The 12th Annual SF DocFest will take place May 30th-June 13th. Mark your calendars; the 12th edition is something you will not want to miss.
