This subversive feminist documentary has attracted both critical acclaim and wild enthusiasm from audiences, even while flying under the radar of mainstream festivals so far.

I HATE MYSELF : ) picked up the Audience Award at LES Film Festival, broke the records for single-day preview numbers on digital platform NoBudge, and was scheduled for an encore screening at its Int’l Premiere this month due to popular demand. Lauded for its brutal candor and subversion of personal documentary niceties, the film has also been included on top ten lists at indieWireFandor, and Tin House Magazine.

In this provocative feature film, nebbishy filmmaker Joanna Arnow chronicles her yearlong relationship with racially charged poet-provocateur James Kepple. What starts out as an uncomfortably intimate portrait of a dysfunctional relationship and protracted mid-twenties adolescence, quickly turns into a complex commentary on societal repression, sexuality and self-confrontation through art.

“A sensational documentary… that has become an underground phenomenon.”  – Sugarhigh, Berlin

Excruciating and extraordinary.” – Andrew Bujalski (Funny Ha Ha)

“Easily the boldest and edgiest film I saw all year.”  – Caveh Zahedi (I Am a Sex Addict)
