Philo T. Farnsworth Award for Innovative Filmmaking: Julien Temple

SF IndieFest prides itself on recognizing those unconventional, creative risk-taking filmmakers that are redefining the cinematic form and we are proud to have Julien Temple as the latest filmmaker the festival has recognized. Temple will appear at the fest to present the North American premiere of his latest documentary Ibiza: The Silent Movie, a collaboration with DJ/musician Fatboy Slim, and a rare 35mm presentation of his first feature documentary The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle, featuring the Sex Pistols.

For all intents and purposes, Julien Temple was the chief film archivist of London’s punk scene in the late Seventies.  While still a student at the National Film and Television School, Temple shot some of the earliest gigs by The Sex Pistols and The Clash at clubs like the Roxy.  What began as a student obsession has fueled a lifelong pursuit of rock documentary truth, feature film adventure and music video stylings. Four decades on he continues to break new ground and epitomizes the inseparability of movies and music.
